Wednesday, February 17th is Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. In addition, Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. For members of the Roman Catholic Church, the norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding upon members of the Roman Catholic Church from age 14 onwards.
Ash Wednesday is not a Holy Day of Obligation nor is receiving ashes required. We will have Mass at 8am and 12 noon with distribution of ashes, and services with distribution ashes at 4pm and 8pm. All the Masses and Services will be in the Parish Center. Also a reminder, this year ashes will be sprinkles on the crown of the head in silence.
For now, we continue our walk with the Lord.
